Thank you so much for your hospitality and insight during my visit to Newport while staying at Seaman's Church Institute. I enjoyed my room overlooking Bowen's Wharf and the harbor. I love the convenience of Aloha Cafe downstairs. I really appreciated the closeness of the buses and water taxi's to get to the Jazz Festival. Block Island, the Mansions, and the Cliff Walk. The Cliff Walk, Easton Beach, and Bailey's Beach were breath-taking and definitely some of the highlights of my trip.

Dear Gretchen, Deedra & Staff,
Our stay in Newport was truly joyful. The wedding of our dear son to his bride from South Africa was lovely. Everything about staying at Seamen's Institute was also special and fun. Thank you to everyone for the nice hellos, favors and attention.
Best wishes to you all.

Dear Sirs and Madams,
Recently, I was a guest in your facility while visiting Newport for the C. Thomas Clagett, Jr. Memorial Clinic & Regatta on Narragansett Bay. I would like to commend you for a beautiful renovation and excellent service.
As a wheelchair user and member of the 2012 Paralympic Sailing Team Sperry Top- Sider, it is refreshing to stay in a place that is actually wheelchair accessible. My annual travel schedule takes me in many places and I am always skeptical of places labeled "accessible", At Seamen's, it shows that you took the time to accommodate people with mobility impairments. The elevator and roll-in shower are two very big additions with big impact. However, it is also the little things that make staying away from home much easier for wheelchair users. From the lowered clothing hooks to the lever door handles to the bed height, it shows that you took the time and care for these details. In addition, the staff and volunteers were always friendly and accommodating. Thank you for being mindful of the Americans with Disabilities Act. More importantly, thank you for being mindful of true needs for people with mobility impairments.
The Seaman's Church Institute is a beautiful facility with wonderful access. I look forward to being a future patron of yours. You are a gem in the heart of Newport, Rhode Island.
Best Regards- JF, 2012 Paralympic Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider

A Place to Stay in Newport -Newport is a sailor's destination for many. If you are looking for a place to stay when visiting there is no better location than the Seaman's Church Institute right in the center of the waterfront.

A sleepy gem in Newport. I just returned from Newport for a few days of networking and visiting. I had some trouble finding affordable hotel availability, so I asked around. There is a little known secret of a place to stay that I wanted to share. It is called Seamen's Church Institute (seamensnewport.org). A female chef friend of mine told me about it. Then another female friend and another. Clean, safe, convenient, and inexpensive.
It is just off Bowen's Wharf. There are only 9 rooms, and two shared bathrooms. For most yachties, not a problem. I was there for five days and hardly saw anyone, although they were fully booked.
There is Wi-Fi on which, with my iPad, I was able to watch the Olympics and news and streamed shows easily. There is a fantastic cafe downstairs for breakfast or lunch. Fresh fluffy towels daily and clean crisp linens.
The gals who run it are terrific. When I woke up with a head cold, they offered to drive me to the CVS and health food store to get chicken soup. Would you get that from Hyatt or Marriot? And they give discounts with mariner credentials.

The Tall Ships leave Newport today in grand style. 14 ships will muster at noon at Castle Hill to begin the procession at sea. One of the crew for the event is Jerry Wiegand. He's aboard the ship from the Philadelphia Maritime Museum. The Gazela. He's enjoyed his stay in Newport saying, "Seamen's Church is right here. They've got breakfast, washing machines, important stuff, library, the whole thing.
